Artifakt
Curtis aka Artifakt was born in Brooklyn, New York in "83", born into a family of musical talents where his father was a reggae artist in the late 70's to early 80's. And having an uncle that is a DJ/founder of one of Brooklyn's top Caribbean music crews "The Supreme Team", Artifakt was influenced by all types of music. “I been around music my whole life, but it wasn't until Aug of "99" that my cousin actually sat me down to write a verse with him I thought what I wrote was the worst thing anyone could even pass off as rap". Currently residing in Strong Island (Long Island) NY, he started writing rhymes at the age of 16 with just normal verses here and there." I used to post on www.Rapmusic.com all the time on the forums to have people critic my verses some hated, some were just coo about area's they thought I could improve on. "If its one thing I think every REAL emcee should be able to do is handle real criticism, if not how you going to improve and grow". Joining up with long time friend "Skheme" years after completing high school, Artifakt recorded his first few tracks with skheme and included the everlasting basement classic "Vent". “I think three of my major influences are Nas, AZ, and Tupac". "Nas and AZ for their poetic sense and idealistic ways of portraying words and when they spit it’s a story it isn’t like that water down bullshit people try to pass off as rap, and Tupac for his insane expression of emotion on tracks". “I believe there’s a difference between an emcee and a rapper, Nas is an emcee, and 50 CENT is a rapper”. Later introduced to all members of Mic Shine (Stryke, Sense Wondah, Dj Spyncere, and Markuz). Artifakt age now 22, this year released his debut mixtape cd "Back For The First Time" Vol 1, it also features special guest from members of mic shine and was released in April 05. "If I had to choose one song that I most favor on the mixtape is probably "Behind Bars" there’s a lot of emotion behind it and it speaks truth of endeavors I’ve ceased and overcome". Also Artifakt was featured on his fellow Mic Shine member Sense Wondah's "Year Of The Wondah mixtape this year with a set release date of sometime in Oct 05. "This has been a good year music wise for me, a lot of different moves being made and I’m proud of the obstacles myself and mic shine have overcome to get where, where at right now in our careers". With Artifakt catching the attention of All Business Records CEO and signing/joining the label was definitely a highlight moment in his career. “I’m just glad to be part of the movement, and glad for the opportunity to get to project my music and myself in a more professional manner, and I thank Chris for believing in me enough and for giving me a chance". Now with one solo mixtape and two other featuring projects under his belt, who knows what is in store for Artifakt, but be sure whatever it is its bound to be something everyone will soon come to discover and talk about.
